ABOUT AKIO

I grew up in the small town of Placerville, California, where I was first introduced to the outdoors through ski racing near Lake Tahoe. At some point, I was introduced to climbing on the beautiful granite of the Sierra Nevada foothills and it quickly consumed my life. I began making frequent trips to the High Sierra and Yosemite Nat'l Park throughout highschool, creating a passion for climbing. Shortly after starting school at Montana State University in Bozeman, I started guiding ice climbing in the nearby Hyalite Canyon and, upon graduating, I committed to full time guiding by becoming a Certified Rock Guide. At some point along the way, I had the fortune to meet my partner, Anju, who I share this amazing journey with.

Currently, I am a mountain guide based out of Bozeman, Montana that values professionalism, relationships, and inclusion. Most of my days in the mountains are spent seeking challenge and adventure while rock and ice climbing in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. When not out climbing or guiding, you can expect me catching up with friends, planning the next trip, or working on a new project.
