Geyikbayiri Rock Retreat

Antalya, Turkey

Overview:

Escape winter this year with a trip to the Mediterranean in Turkey. With Aki, a Certified Rock Guide, and Anju, a Turkish culture affiliate and Apprentice Rock Guide, you'll have the chance to experience some of the world's most unique climbing while being immersed in the local culture.

On this exclusive trip to the Lycian coast, you can expect world class rock climbing, inviting locals, and truly relaxing vistas and campgrounds. This experience, perhaps the only one offered, was designed for the climber in need of some exploration and a retreat from normal life. It is perfect for those who have experience sport climbing or even just in the gym and want to test their skills on real rock.

Although custom options are available, our standard trip takes place over 7 days in Geyikbayiri. With only one stop in Istanbul on your way to and from the region, travel is safe and easy.

We begin by picking you up in Antalya, either directly from the airport or from your hotel, and heading straight to our accommodations. Situated up in the mountains less than an hour above the metropolis of Antalya, the air is slightly cooler and less humid. The campground offers cabins, small rustic bungalows, and tent camping (at a discount) just a stone's throw from some of the best climbs in the region. Every breakfast and dinner, made fresh with local ingredients, will be provided at the campground. Fresh fruit, local beer and wine are all available to compliment meals. Lunch will not be provided, although the opportunity to stop by the open air market will allow many options for daily snacks.

Depending on your climbing background and desire, we tailor the upcoming days to provide the best experience. Rain or shine, the cliffs offer ample opportunity for amazing climbing from moderate 5.7s to stunning 40 meter tufa filled caves. Expect casual mornings, long days of climbing, and relaxing evenings.

For rest and cultural activities, either half or full day, there are plenty of options locally. Every week, the nearby Bazaar (market) is packed with Turkish cuisine, fresh local products, and unique souvenirs. The stunning Mediterranean coast, along with the tourist destination of Antalya, is just a short drive away. A visit to town for a Hamam, or Turkish bath, is a must-do experience after a few days of climbing. If you're in need of a hike, the Lycian Way starts right behind camp and can take you up to a spectacular ruin overlooking the entire valley. Daily yoga and meditation sessions can be provided as well.

For an additional cost, a trip to Olympos can be arranged. Less than two hours away, this beach town hosts ancient Greek ruins, incredible swimming, and more rock climbing. The climbing here is accessed by boat and there is even opportunity for deep water soloing, depending on conditions.
